How It Works

A comprehensive technical guide to audio metadata embedding and its critical importance in music distribution

Technical Architecture

DLM Audio Metadata Embedder uses industry-standard metadata embedding techniques to ensure your music files contain all necessary information for digital distribution, streaming platforms, and music discovery services.

MP3 (ID3v2 Tags)

For MP3 files, we use the ID3v2.3/2.4 standard, which embeds metadata as binary tags within the audio file structure.

  • ID3 Frames: Each metadata field is stored as a frame (TIT2 for title, TPE1 for artist, etc.)
  • APIC Frame: Album artwork embedded as JPEG/PNG data
  • TXXX Frames: Custom fields for extended metadata
  • Encoding: 192 kbps CBR MP3 with LAME encoder

WAV (RIFF INFO)

For WAV files, we use the RIFF LIST INFO chunk standard, which is compatible with BWF (Broadcast Wave Format).

  • LIST INFO Chunk: Metadata stored in standardized INFO tags
  • INAM/IART: Standard tags for title and artist
  • Custom Fields: Extended metadata in IKEY tag
  • Uncompressed: Lossless PCM audio maintained

Why Metadata is Critical

🔍 SEO & Music Discovery

Properly embedded metadata is essential for search engine optimization and music discovery across platforms.

  • Streaming platforms (Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal) use metadata for search and recommendations
  • Search engines index embedded metadata for music search results
  • Proper tagging improves algorithmic playlist placement
  • Genre and mood tags help content curation and discovery

⚖️ Rights Management & Royalties

Metadata ensures proper attribution and royalty distribution in the digital music ecosystem.

  • ISRC Codes: Unique identifiers for tracking plays and royalties
  • Copyright Info: Legal protection and ownership documentation
  • Publisher Data: Ensures proper publishing splits
  • Credit Attribution: Proper crediting for all contributors

🎯 Professional Standards

Meeting industry standards is crucial for distribution and professional credibility.

  • Digital distributors require complete metadata for submission
  • Radio stations need accurate metadata for broadcast logs
  • Professional libraries require comprehensive tagging
  • Album artwork ensures proper visual representation

Professional Use Cases

🎵 Music Labels & Distributors

Prepare catalog for digital distribution across multiple platforms. Ensure all tracks have proper ISRC codes, UPC codes, and complete metadata for streaming services.

🎧 Independent Artists

Tag your music properly before uploading to DistroKid, TuneCore, or CD Baby. Improve discoverability and ensure proper credit attribution across all platforms.

🎬 Production Music Libraries

Comprehensive metadata including BPM, key, mood, and instrumentation helps music supervisors find the perfect track for their projects. Essential for sync licensing.

📻 Radio & Broadcasting

Stations require accurate metadata for automated playlist systems, broadcast logs, and royalty reporting. Essential for commercial radio operations.

🎼 Music Archives & Libraries

Organize large music collections with comprehensive metadata. Essential for institutional archives, music schools, and professional audio libraries.

💿 Album Production

Embed complete album metadata including track numbers, disc numbers, album artist, and artwork before manufacturing physical media or digital releases.

Processing Workflow

1

Upload Audio Files

Drag and drop or select audio files (MP3, WAV, FLAC, etc.). Supports batch processing of entire albums or catalogs.

2

Choose Editing Mode

Single File Mode: Edit one file at a time with detailed metadata fields.
Bulk Editor: Spreadsheet-style interface for editing multiple files simultaneously.

3

Enter Metadata

Fill in basic info (title, artist), legal data (ISRC, copyright), credits (composer, producer), and advanced fields (BPM, key, mood). Upload album artwork if needed.

4

Select Export Format

Choose MP3 (192 kbps for streaming/distribution) or WAV (uncompressed for masters). Metadata is embedded according to format standards.

5

Process & Download

Files are processed in-browser with embedded metadata. Single files download directly; multiple files are packaged in a ZIP archive for convenience.
